A study has indicated that higher vitamin D levels are associated with reduced breast cancer risk. Data was pooled from 2 randomized clinical trials consisting of 3,325 participants and a prospective study consisting of 1,713 participants for examining the association between breast cancer risk and vitamin D levels. Serum concentrations of 25-hydroxyvitamin D were used as the marker for measuring vitamin D levels in the blood.
The study participants’ average age was 63 and they were all free of cancer when enrolled for the study. Levels of vitamin D in the blood were measured periodically over a period of 4 years.
