Cabbage juice for ulcers
Probably the most remarkable health benefit of cabbage was demonstrated when cabbage juice’s efficacy as an ulcer treatment was first confirmed in a small study conducted in 1949. 1✅ JOURNAL REFERENCE
The healing time for 6 individuals suffering from gastric ulcers who consumed cabbage juice was only 7.3 days on average, in comparison to 42 days for individuals who took a standard treatment for stomach ulcers.
The healing time for 7 individuals suffering from duodenal ulcers was just 10.4 days on average in comparison to 37 days healing time in 62 individuals who took a standard treatment for stomach ulcers.
This component of cabbage with anti-ulcer properties was initially identified by scientists as “vitamin U” due to its anti-ulcer properties, but was later referred to as S-methylmethionine sulfonium chloride (SMMS).2✅ JOURNAL REFERENCE
DOI: 10.5021/ad.2012.24.1.39 SMMS helps to increase the production of mucin, a mucous membrane secretion, which helps to maintain a protective layer on the esophagus and stomach surface.
The juice of cabbages is also a great source of sulforaphane, an antioxidant that is a powerful bactericide that protects against Helicobacter pylori, the bacteria responsible for the majority of peptic ulcers.
Another study has verified the benefits of juicing cabbage for peptic ulcer treatment.3✅ JOURNAL REFERENCE

Cabbage juice also provides better nutrient absorption in comparison to consuming whole cabbage. It’s also easier to consume in the necessary quantity when juiced compared to eating huge amounts of coleslaw salad.
