1. Green tea may help to improve weight loss efforts

In an analysis of 26 studies, researchers discovered that people consuming green tea experienced a substantial reduction in BMI and body weight. However, the analysis didn’t reveal any significant change with regards to waist circumference with green tea supplementation.1✅ JOURNAL REFERENCE

The analysis, which included 1,344 individuals, found that BMI and body weight changed significantly after green tea consumption of less than 800 mg daily for a longer time than 12 weeks.

One study revealed that individuals who consumed 2 cups of green tea daily for over 10 years had a lower body fat percentage and a smaller waist in comparison to individuals not consuming green tea drinkers regularly.2✅ JOURNAL REFERENCE

In a study in mice, green tea reduced obesity as well as several inflammatory biomarkers associated with poor health in the mice that were given a green tea supplemented diet.3✅ JOURNAL REFERENCE

The benefits observed in the study seem to come from improved gut health, such as more beneficial microbes in the intestines of the mice and fewer leaks in the structure of the intestinal wall, a disorder generally known as “leaky gut” in humans.

The study provides proof that green tea helps to stimulate good gut bacteria growth, contributing to intestinal health benefits that reduce obesity risk significantly. Negative gut microbiome changes have been previously associated with obesity, and green tea has also been found to play a part in promoting healthy bacteria.

Half of the mice consumed a high-fat diet meant to induce obesity and half were given a regular diet for 8 weeks. In both of these groups, half were given an extract of green tea mixed in with the food. The mice given a green tea supplemented high-fat diet gained approximately 20% less weight compared to mice given an otherwise identical diet with no green tea supplementation.

Green tea intake in the study would be comparable to approximately 10 cups of green tea during the day for a human being, which might seem like a great deal of tea, but it’s not highly uncommon in some parts of the world.
